Custom Oil & Gas / Marine PVC & Canvas Fabrication | BDM Perth WA
Working on ships, rigs and marine sites demands equipment that can take a beating. At BDM Leather & Canvas, we design and manufacture custom PVC and canvas solutions for the oil, gas and marine industries — from security pass boards and site identification systems to purpose-built covers and protective gear. If the environment is harsh and the stakes are high, that's exactly where we come in.
Featured Project — Shipboard Contractor Pass Board
The Brief: A heavy-duty PVC pass board designed to hold up to 100 contractor passes at a ship's security checkpoint — built for daily use and rapid deployment in an emergency.
The Challenge: The board needed to perform two very different jobs simultaneously: hold up reliably through daily use by contractors going on and off the vessel, and roll up quickly in an emergency so security personnel could immediately account for everyone on board.
The Solution: Fabricated in heavy-duty marine-grade PVC with individual pass pockets sized to hold ship IDs, drivers licences and contractor passes. Fitted with robust eyelets for fixed mounting at the checkpoint, the board rolls cleanly for emergency retrieval and is fully resistant to the elements — salt air, moisture and the wear of a working vessel.

Frequently Asked Questions
What materials are best suited to a marine environment?
Marine-grade PVC is our go-to for most shipboard applications — it handles saltwater, UV exposure and daily wear exceptionally well. Where additional toughness is needed over waterproofing, 680gsm canvas can be the better choice. When you get in touch, we'll talk through the environment and recommend the right spec.
Can pass boards be custom-sized for different numbers of passes?
Yes — everything we make is custom. Whether you need a board for 20 passes or 200, we'll design it to your exact requirements, including pocket sizing for your specific ID formats.
Do your products meet marine or offshore safety standards?
We fabricate to the requirements you specify. If your vessel or site has particular standards for materials or fittings, let us know upfront and we'll design accordingly.
How quickly can the pass board be rolled up and deployed in an emergency?
That was a core design requirement for this project. The board rolls cleanly without needing to remove the passes, so security personnel can pick it up and move immediately — which is exactly what the client needed.
How do I get a quote for an oil, gas or marine project?
Get in touch via our contact page with as much detail as you have — a rough description, dimensions if known and the problem you're trying to solve. We'll come back to you with questions if needed and provide a no-obligation quote from there.
