Custom Conveyor Buffer Covers | BDM
When a client's fruit washing conveyor started losing water through a worn-out buffer, they needed more than a like-for-like replacement — they needed a material that could handle constant water exposure and high pressure without breaking down. At BDM Leather & Canvas, we sourced a specialist composite material for the job and manufactured panels to fit around the client's equipment and limited downtime window.
Featured Project — Conveyor Buffer Covers for a Fruit Washing Line
The Brief: The client came to us with excess water escaping from their fruit washing conveyor belt — the existing buffer had reached the end of its life and needed a better long-term solution.
The Challenge: Finding a material able to withstand constant water exposure and high pressure while fully containing the water was the main hurdle — alongside sourcing something with genuine longevity. Fitting the panels also meant partially dismantling the machine, so the installation had to work within a very limited downtime window.
The Solution: We sourced a material that's difficult to obtain and has limited common uses, but was ideally suited to this application, and manufactured the covers to fit the client's exact requirements.
What We Make
Buffer covers and containment panels for wash-down and conveyor equipment
High-pressure water containment solutions for food processing lines
Custom panels manufactured around limited machine downtime
Made-to-fit replacements for worn or end-of-life equipment buffers
Materials We Use
A PVC/foam composite material normally used in speed roller doors — 3mm thick and finished with a gloss lacquer on both sides, giving it the water resistance and pressure tolerance the application needed.
Outcome:
A set of buffer covers manufactured to the client's exact requirements, solving the water containment issue with a material built to handle the pressure and last well beyond the previous buffer's lifespan.
Sourcing the Right Material for a Demanding Job
Some jobs come down to finding a material most suppliers don't stock and few applications call for. This was one of them — a specialist composite that could take constant water exposure and high pressure without degrading, in a facility where downtime wasn't really an option. Rather than compromising on an easier-to-source material, we tracked down the right one and manufactured to fit, so the client got a solution built to last rather than a quick patch.

Need a buffer or containment solution for wash-down or high-pressure equipment?
We source the right material for the job, not just what's easy to get. Perth manufacturing, Australia-wide delivery.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can you source hard-to-find or specialist materials?
Yes — where a job calls for something not commonly stocked, we'll track down a material suited to the application rather than settling for an easier-to-source alternative.
Can covers be manufactured to contain high-pressure water?
Yes — we manufacture buffer and containment covers designed to handle constant water exposure and high pressure without breaking down.
What material do you use for wash-down conveyor buffers?
For this application we used a 3mm PVC/foam composite, gloss lacquered on both sides, normally used in speed roller doors — chosen for its water and pressure resistance.
Can you work around limited machine downtime for installation?
Yes — we manufacture to the client's specifications in advance so fitting can happen within a tight downtime window.
How do I get a quote for custom buffer or containment covers?
Get in touch with details of your equipment and the problem you're facing, and we'll come back to you with a no-obligation quote.
